A fine copy with handcoloured plates of the first and only edition of this important work on the city with a presentation letter from the Milanese Podestà Casati (1798-1873) inserted.

2 volumes, 8vo (264 x 175mm). Half-titles, titles within a decorative frame, 14 aquatint views protected by tissue paper, head-and-tail pieces at the beginning and end of the chapter, initials, all engraved and handcoloured at the time, 2 large folding maps, with errata in both volumes (occasional light spotting). Modern bindings with a facsimile illustration of the title on the cover and on the boxes in which they are preserved.
