Silber, Elfenbein. Auf einem gewölbten Hohlfuß mit stark getriebenem Dekor: bekröntes Szepter-Wappen (vgl. Schwedter Dragoner) zwischen Trophäen und Fruchtbouquets sowie Muschelwerk. Glatter, stark eingezogener Schaft. Darüber gewölbte Plinthe mit reliefiertem Wiesendekor und stark ausgestelltem, gewelltem Rand. Vollplastisch gearbeiteter Reiter nach einem Vorbild der 2. Hälfte des 17. Jhdts. mit Kürass, Koller, Schärpe, Reitstiefeln, federgeschmücktem Hut und Degen (Gefäß und unterer Teil der Scheide fehlen). Er reitet auf einem sich stark aufbäumenden Pferd und hat seinen Degen erhoben. Pferd mit steckbarem Kopf. Bewegliches Zaumzeug besetzt mit fünf Cabochons. Der Kopf des Reiters ist detailliert aus Elfenbein geschnitzt. Fuß mit Fantasiemarken und österreichischer Importmarke gestempelt. Maße 72,5 x 37 x 28 cm, Gesamtgewicht 5877 g.
Kurfürst Friedrich Wilhelm führte Brandenburg aus dem Dreißigjährigen Krieg, baute es wieder auf und sorgte dafür, dass sich das damals kleine Land neben seinen großen Nachbarn behaupten konnte. Am 25.6.1675 schlug ein brandenburgisches Heer unter seiner persönlichen Führung in der Schlacht von Fehrbellin die Schweden entscheidend. Nach diesem Sieg wurde ihm durch seine Zeitgenossen der Beiname "Großer Kurfürst" verliehen. In Folge dieses Sieges eroberte Brandenburg bis 1678 ganz Schwedisch-Pommern.

A monumental silver statue of a horseman, in honour of Great Elector Frederick William (1620 - 1688), Hanau, Neresheimer & Söhne, circa 1900
Silver and ivory. On a convex hollow base with heavily chased embellishment: a crowned sceptre coat of arms (see the Schwedt dragoons) amidst trophies, bouquets of fruit and shells. Smooth, strongly tapered shaft. Above which, a domed plinth with a meadowland pattern in relief and heavily flaring, fluted rim. Fully sculptured horseman, modelled after a figure from the second half of the 17th century, with cuirass, tunic, sash, riding boots, feather-trimmed hat and sword (the hilt and lower part of the scabbard have been lost). He is mounted on a rearing steed and has drawn his sword. The horse with detachable head. Movable bridle set with five cabochons. The horseman's head carved in great detail in ivory. The base stamped with made-up marks and an Austrian import mark. Dimensions 72.5 x 37 x 28 cm, total weight 5877 g.
Great Elector Frederick William led Brandenburg out of the Thirty Years' War, rebuilt the state, at that time rather small, and ensured that it was able to hold its own alongside more powerful neighbours. On 25 June 1675, a Brandenburg army under his personal command achieved a decisive victory over the Swedes in the Battle of Fehrbellin. After this triumph, his contemporaries gave him the sobriquet of "Great Elector". In the wake of this victory, Brandenburg conquered the whole of Swedish Pomerania by 1678.
