Monumentale Tierplastik eines jungen Bären von Meissen Weißporzellan. Auf rechteckig gewölbtem Sockel die vollplastische Darstellung eines jungen Bären, auf seinen Vorderpranken ruhend, die Tatzen in offenem Gestus leicht ausgestreckt und mit dem Haupt leicht zur Seite geneigt. Fein konturierte Muskel- und Fellzeichnung bishin zur Ausarbeitung der Krallen. Entw. Max Esser, 1929. Minim. rest. bzw. minim. herstellungsbed. Spannungsrisse. Schwertermarke. H. 65 cm.
Max Esser (1885 - 1945) gilt als einer der bedeutendsten Plastiker der Pfeifferzeit. Nach einer Bildhauerlehre wurde er Meisterschüler von August Gaul an der Kunstakademie in Berlin. Als freischaffender Bildhauer war er in den 1920er Jahren eng mit der Meissener Manufaktur verbunden und schuf in dieser Dekade neben dem Tafelaufsatz Reineke Fuchs Tierfiguren im Stil des Art Déco, die durch einen ausdrucksstarken Habitus überzeugen und zweifelsfrei zu den wichtigsten Werken dieser Zeit zählen. Unter der Aufsicht von Esser wurden Modelle seines Lehrmeisters August Gaul in Meissen ausgeformt, darunter die Plastik eines jungen Bären im Jahr 1926, die Esser beeinflusst haben könnte.
