Lot 7 | MUNDRABILLA METEORITE INDIVIDUAL
The sculptural specimen with an appealing red patina. Reminiscent of a Henry Moore sculpture, this Mundrabilla is an ungrouped iron meteorite, meaning that it doesn’t fit into the established groups of iron meteorites. Thousands of pieces have been found over the decades, with the largest mass weighing over 12 metric tons. This meteorite forms one of the largest strewn fields on Earth, stretching over 100 kilometers! However, many of the recovered pieces of this meteorite are housed in Australian museums, with little available to the private collector.

Christie's would like to thank Dr. Alan E. Rubin at the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences, University of California, Los Angeles for his assistance in preparing this catalogue.
