Lot 2846 | MUSEALES BUREAU PLAT
Probably the workshop of Ebenist Julius Zwiener, Berlin, early 20th century, veneer panels framed on all sides, applications of mascarons in relief and foliage of gilded bronze, straight, fittingly curved frame, flanked by fully sculptured female figures of herms on high, curved legs, in the articulated front three drawers of different sizes as well as corresponding blind drawers on the back, slightly overhanging, profile framed top with inlaid leather work surface, HxWxD: ca. 80/198/102 cm. Signs of age and wear, leather partly damaged.
Our desk is a copy of the desk of Frederick the Great from the Potsdam City Palace, which was made in 1750 and which itself was a largely exact copy of the king's French desk, which Frederick had acquired a few years earlier and which was probably made by Latz.
