Lot 284 | MUSSOLINI
Estimate value
€ 3 000 – 5 000
Unique and interesting testimony of the private life of the Mussolini family through the shots of Leopoldo Re, butler of the Duce. The photographs have as protagonists the children and his wife Rachele in what would appear to be the shots of a normal family of the time and Mussolini himself appears on several occasions in bourgeois clothes rather than as a dictator. In particular, there are several informal portraits, shots of the family on vacation in Rimini, and many photographs that portray Leopoldo with the dictator's children. Leopoldo Re (1874-1951), "Poldo" for the family, entered the service of the Mussolini in April 1920 in Milan as chauffeur and butler and remained in service until 1940 when he retired for seniority; his memoirs were recently published in the book "Twenty years with the Duce" written by his nephew, Rino Fossati and illustrated by this photographic collection.
. 41 photographs of various formats, two of which addressed to Edda Mussolini, one signed by a young Vittorio and one by Bruno Mussolini; two free train tickets reserved for deputies in the name of Leopoldo Re and signed by Benito Mussolini and the Minister of Communications (one of 13 August 1936, one of 19 April 1931), a free admission card to the cinema for the year 1927 by Rachele Mussolini, valid for her and her family; two postcards, one of which addressed to Rino Fossati by Leopoldo Re, Romano and Anna Maria Mussolini as children (some occasional wear)
