An ivory netsuke of Daikoku. JAPAN, around 1930. Like most gods of fortune, Daikoku is an obese, always laughing man with thick earlobes. He wears traditional Japanese clothes and a cap. In his right hand he holds a lucky hammer and sits on a rice sack. The sack is decorated with the Buddhist wish jewel. Signature 'Hakko' incised on the underside, h. 6 cm.
