Japan. Edo Period. 18. Century youth Sennin Gama, cheerful, laughing, about the little toad, trusting to
his right Hand on his lap sits and curious about the head hochreckt. He sits in
gegürtetem robe with thick double leaves collar, the wide Cuffs themselves
bauschend, while the right leg bent is high. Ivory, fine and
moved, carved, polished and finely engraved, dark-accented Details. Both
Eyes inlaid in dark Horn. Beautiful, glassy, gold-yellow, sometimes
brownish patina from Use. On a rectangular Reserve Tomotada signed:. Of the famous
Schnitzer from the Kyoto school, active between 1750-1800, listed in the Soken Kisho.
This piece, illustrated in the MCI on page 912, is one of a small group of human,
or divine representations of this for his animals, famous wood-Carver. H. 4,4 cm., B. 4.5 cm. Condition A.
