Das Mandala in seiner komplexen Symbolik kann als idealer Aufenthaltsort der Gottheit, der dieses Mandala geweiht ist, betrachtet werden. Das Grundelement ist der alles umschließende Kreis, ohne Anfang und ohne Ende. Er versinnbildlicht den Kosmos, der die Erde umschließt, die durch das Quadrat versinnbildlicht wird. Das Quadrat bedeutet aber auch, in seiner Ausformung als Tempel oder Palast, eine schützende Sphäre, die alles Störende vom geweihten Sakrum fern hält, einen von allen Hindernissen und Befleckungen des Geistes gereinigten Raum. Der blaufarbene Tathagata Akshobhya vermittelt die „Spiegelgleiche Weisheit“ in der alle Erscheinungen zu leeren Trugbildern verblassen, und das Bewusstsein völlig zur Ruhe kommt. Seine linke Hand hält aufgerichtet das Diamantszepter (Skr. vajra). Unser Geist, unser Gewahrsein wird mit dem Vajra verglichen, weil dieses Gewahrsein alle Illusionen, alle Täuschungen durchtrennen, spalten und auflösen kann. Der Vajra wird verglichen mit dem Diamanten, er verdeutlicht die unzerstörbare Kraft und Transparenz, die alles andere übertrifft. Er versinnbildlicht die Methode, oder den (tantrischen) Weg. Akshobhya wird begleitet von acht Gottheiten die auf einem achtblättrigen Lotus sitzen. Oberhalb des kosmischen Mandalas befinden sich Gottheiten die dem Initianten Führung geben und ihn auf seinem spirituellen Weg begleiten. In der Mitte der Versammlung scheint Vajradhara auf. Obwohl Vajradhara im gegenstandslosen Dharmakaya weilt, wird er in himmlischen Gewändern und im Schmuck des Sambhogakaya dargestellt. So zeigt er seine Fähigkeit, fortwährend für das Wohl der Wesen und ihre Bedürfnisse zu sorgen. Rechts von ihm ist der blaufarbene Bodhisattva der Kraft - Vajrapani - dargestellt. Er verleiht Stärke und Ausdauer. Diese Kraft wird noch verstärkt durch die Präsenz des Nilambara Vajrapani, mit seiner Partnerin. Eine fürsorglich weibliche Komponente bringt die Weiße Tara - in der rechten Ecke des Mandalas. Sie hat die Kraft das Leben zu verlängern um das Ziel erreichbar zu machen. Drei hohe Gelehrte der Nyingma Schule, aus der dieses Initiationsbild entstammt, zeigen sich zwischen den Gottheiten. Unterhalb des Mandalas erscheinen zwei Gottheiten in den beiden unteren Ecken, die Hindernisse auf dem spirituellen Weg beseitigen sollen. Links befindet sich der männliche vierarmige Schützer Caturbhuja Mahakala, und ihm gegenüber seine weibliche Entsprechung Palden Lhamo auf einem Maultier reitend. Caturbhuja Mahakala ist untrennbar mit dem Cakrasamvara Tantra verbunden, dessen Manifestation sich in der Mitte, zwischen den beiden Schützern, in liebender Vereinigung - Weisheit und Mitgefühl symbolisierend, befindet. Tempera und Gold auf Baumwollgewebe, Abriebe und Verschmutzungen; ungerahmt.
