DUTCH SCHOOL OF THE EARLY 16TH CENTURY PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG MAN Oil on oak panel. 28 x 22 cm. Part. rest., retouchings, overpaintings. Prof. Dr. Peter Klein (University of Hamburg) assumes (after analysing the sapwood statistics) that the panel was used from 1507 onwards. 'Assuming the sapwood statistics for Eastern Europe, the earliest felling date of the tree used is 1499, but a felling date between 1503..1505..1509 +x is more likely. An earliest origin of the painting would be conceivable with a minimum storage time of the wood of 2 years from 1501. However, with a median of 17 sapwood growth rings and a probable storage time of the wood of 2 years, an origin of the painting from 1507 onwards is more likely.' 'Unter Voraussetzung der Splintholzstatistik für Osteuropa ergibt sich ein frühestes Fälldatum des verwendeten Baumes ab 1499, eher wahrscheinlich ist jedoch ein Fälldatum zwischen 1503..1505..1509 +x. Eine früheste Entstehung des Gemäldes wäre bei einer minimalen Lagerzeit des Holzes von 2 Jahren ab 1501 denkbar. Eher ist jedoch bei einem Median von 17 Splintholzjahrringen und einer wahrscheinlichen Lagerzeit des Holzes von 2 Jahren eine Entstehung des Gemäldes ab 1507 zu vermuten.'
