Apart from Spyridon Louis's signature two others are especially noteworthy: Alfred Nakache (1915-1983), also known as "nageur d'Auschwitz" ("the Swimmer of Auschwitz"): born in Algeria of Jewish descent, he moved to France in 1933. He was deported to Auschwitz in 1943 and survived, but lost his wife and daughter there. He competed in the London Olympics in 1948 and is considered the only Olympic athlete who competed before and after imprisonment in Auschwitz.
It is said that Hitler was so impressed by the Wushu demonstration of Fu Shu-Yun (1916-20??) and her team in Berlin in 1936 that he invited them to a private reception. She was one of the best-known teachers for Tai Chi or Kung Fu at the Nanking Central Martial Arts Academy. She immigrated to Taiwan with her husband, martial arts legend Meng Zhao-Xu, and played lead roles in Kung Fu movies in the 1970s.
