Nyoirin Kannon Nadelholz, Metall. teilw. vergoldet. Vollplastische, in Yosegizukuri-Technik (zusammengesetzter Block) gefertigte Figur des sitzenden Nyoirin Kannon, in der Haltung von Rajalilasana (königliche Gelassenheit) dargestellt. Den linken Arm geerdet, das rechte Knie erhoben, den Unterarm stützend, wobei die rechte Wange sanft auf den Knöcheln der Hand ruht. Das locker über die Schultern drapierte Gewand, in Falten über den Schoß fließend, das Haupt bekrönt von einer durchbrochen gearbeiteten, mit Glasperlen besetzten Krone, die halb geschlossenen Augen aus hintermaltem Glas. Auf der Unterseite Reste eines alten Etiketts mit der Nr. 22. Minim. besch.; H. 22 cm.
Kannon, im klassischen Sanskrit meist gen. Avalokiteshvara, ist der Bodhisattva des Mitgefühls. Er wird mit zwei bis 42 Armen, in China auch weiblich dargestellt, die Darstellungen mit zwei oder sechs Armen überwiegen. Eine sehr ähnliche Figur befindet sich im Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York: Rogers Fund, 1956. Object Number: 56.39. Eine frühe Darstellung des wunscherfüllenden Kannon, datiert 1275, findet sich im Nara National Museum (ehemals im Tennojii-Tempel, Osaka; https:www.narahaku.go.jp/collection/v-1070-1.html).
