François-Désiré and his son Émile Froment-Meurice were among the most outstanding Parisian silversmiths and jewelers during the Restoration and Second Empire. Their work was not only celebrated at world exhibitions, but also highly valued at the royal courts of Europe.
Thus, not only the famous toilet set of the Duchess of Parma, but also, for example, a cradle for the first-born son of Napoleon Bonaparte, presented as a gift from the city of Paris, came from the workshop of Froment-Meurice (Les Froment-Meurice p.47ff and p.98).
