Lot 24 | ORIENTED CARBONACEOUS TARDA METEORITE
Estimate value
£ 8 000 – 12 000
This meteorite is blanketed in pristine fusion crust and is oriented (it did not spin and tumble during its descent through the Earth’s atmosphere, but largely maintained the same axis of orientation). Ablation lipping, a telltale sign of orientation, is readily evident. Now offered is an exceptional specimen from a scientifically notable and recent meteorite shower, containing early granules that have remained unchanged since the dawn of the Solar System.

Christie's would like to thank Dr. Alan E. Rubin at the Department of Earth, Planetary, and Space Sciences, University of California, Los Angeles for his assistance in preparing this catalogue.
