Lot 1153 | Oswald Achenbach(1827 Düsseldorf 1905 ibid)
On the Via Appia in Rome
With wide ductal painted work of Achenbach, showing him as a significant precursor of the Impressionists, held by the engagement with Courbet and Turner to a style of its own. The welfare of his late Oeuvre attributed to painting reflects his Intention to ignore the detail in favour of the overall effect. By accentuating contrasts with the pastel shades he managed this to great effect and the mood to capture. Since his first major trip to Italy in 1850, Rome became a major motif of his Oeuvre.
