Unten rechts mit Bleistift handsigniert und datiert 'O PIENE (19)65'. Verso: Mit Klebeetikett der Galerie Ursula Wendtorf & Franz Swetec, Düsseldorf. Hinter Glas gerahmt (ungeöffnet). 1957 gründet Otto Piene gemeinsam mit Heinz Mack in Düsseldorf die Künstlerbewegung ZERO, der sich wenige Zeit später auch Günther Uecker anschließt. Nach der Veröffentlichung der gleichnamigen Zeitschrift sowie zahlreichen Ausstellungen im In- und Ausland lösen Mack, Piene und Uecker die Bewegung schließlich im Jahr 1966 auf.Otto Pienes Auseinandersetzung mit dem Phänomen Licht führt ihn über seine frühen Rasterbilder, die er ab 1957 in seinem Atelier in der Gladbacher Straße 69 in Düsseldorf anfertigt über das Lichtballett, bei dem durch die perforierten Schablonen anstelle der Farbe artifizielles Licht in den umgebenden Raum projiziert wird hin zu den Feuerzeichnungen und -gouachen, die direkt mit dem Medium Feuer entstehen. Das auf den Karton gesprühte Pigment wird dabei von Piene mit einem Streichholz angezündet. Die entstandene Flamme wird solange vom Künstler gelenkt, bis eine krustige Kreisstruktur auf der Bildoberfläche zurückbleibt. Diese Struktur erwirkt im Auge der Betrachtenden eine räumliche, dynamische Bildwirkung. Diese hier angebotene Feuergouache entstammt aus dem Jahr 1965 der aktiven ZERO-Zeit. In 1957 Otto Piene founded the artist movement ZERO together with Heinz Mack in Düsseldorf, which Günther Uecker also joined a short time later. After the publication of the magazine of the same name and numerous exhibitions at home and abroad, Mack, Piene and Uecker finally dissolved the movement in 1966. Otto Piene's exploration of the phenomenon of light led him from his early raster paintings, which he produced in his studio at Gladbacher Strasse 69 in Düsseldorf from 1957 onwards, to the light ballet, in which artificial light is projected into the surrounding space through the perforated stencils instead of paint, and finally to the fire drawings and gouaches, which are created directly with the medium of fire. Piene lights the pigment sprayed onto the cardboard with a match. The resulting flame is directed by the artist until a crusty circular structure remains on the surface of the painting. This structure creates a spatial, dynamic pictorial effect in the eye of the beholder. This fire gouache offered here dates from 1965, the active ZERO period.
