China. Qing Dynasty. Kangxi Period (1661-1722). Dehua, Fujian Province.

Blanc de Chine porcelain with later Western painting. Here, as the Songzi Guanyin (The children bring the end of the goddess of mercy) standing on a
rocky Base and in the right Arm of a boy holding. The head of the lady with
elaborate updo hairstyle is separately made. Your wide and loose
knotted garments are decorated branches with colorful flowers. The child holds in his
right Hand a brush (a Symbol of Receptiveness), and in the left a gold bar
(for prosperity). Height approx 65cm. Later wooden stand, Ø 24,5 cm. Condition B. paint rubbed part. Gilding partly complemented. Fire cracks. In the case of a child brush, and bars of gold stopped, and pointing damaged fingers of a Guanyin.
The shape of the Songzi Guanyin appeared for the first time in the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127), their biggest spread she found, however, during the Ming and Qing dynasty. Due to their Similarity with Christian Madonnas with child these figures as an export of great popularity were enjoyed in the Western market. Sometimes the figures from the Dehua porcelain were painted in addition to colour, most likely in the West. Here, the hair and the facial features in Black, with little Red, the robes and jewels in bright colors and with a lot of gilding.

Collection of the well-known Cologne-based Antiques dealer, Werner Köntges (1902-1997). Since the 1950s, by inheritance in the family estate.
