A PAIR OF GEORGE III SILVER ENTRÉE DISHES AND COVERS
MARK OF RICHARD COOKE, LONDON, 1802
plain rectangular with rounded corners and reeded borders, engraved with coat-of-arms, fully marked on sides and numbered 3 and 4 on covers and dishes
The arms are those of count Semion Romanovitch Vorontsov (1744-1832).

Count Semyon Romanovich Vorontsov was a Russian diplomat and aristocrat. He resided in Great Britain from 1785 until his death in 1832.
Serving as an embassy adviser in Vienna in 1764, he was later appointed Russia’s minister in Venice and then in London from 1785 to 1806. He played a key role in Russo-British relations, notably by helping to disarm the British fleet during the Russo-Turkish War (1787–1792) and securing the renewal of the Russo-British trade treaty in 1793. He also supported the Bourbons and criticised the division of Poland, which upset Empress Catherine II.
Under the reign of Paul I, he was appointed extraordinary ambassador and was granted vast estates in Finland. However, his properties were confiscated in 1800 after Russia moved closer to France. Reinstated by Alexander I in 1801, he resigned in 1806 due to health issues and family concerns.
Vorontsov published his memoirs and notes on Russia’s internal government. He died in 1832 and was buried in London, where a street, Woronzow Road, is named after him.
