A PAIR OF TERRACOTTA HIGH RELIEF MEDALLIONS REPRESENTING THE FALL OF MAN AND THE GRAPES OF CANAAN, ITALIAN, MID-18TH CENTURY

Although there is certainly an engraved iconographic source for these medallions, it has yet to be identified. The Fall of Man may be related to German and Dutch engravings, such as those by Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) or Ludwig Krug (1488-1532). A link could also be established with the painting by François Lemoyne (1688-1737) from the collection of Villette, and later from the Bourbon-Conti collections (Sotheby’s, Paris, 24 June 2009, lot 49), particularly with the body and pose of Adam.

Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
