A pallash for officers of the heavy cavalry, 1711 - 1740
Broad, straight, double-edged blade (stained, partly pitted) with central point, both sides with central fuller, the base etched with crowned double-headed eagle and inscription "Vivat Carolus VI Römischer Kaisser" for Emperor Charles VI (reign 1711 – 1740). Knuckle-bow hilt of non-ferrous metal decorated in relief, with two bars on the obverse, knuckle guard (double-headed eagle), thumb ring on the reverse and faceted, finely punched grip cap with lion head finial, grip with old leather cover (rubbed, minor isolated flaws). Well-replaced leather-covered wooden scabbard with brass fittings, the chape with frog stud on the obverse. Slightly damaged in places, traces of age. Length 99.5 cm.
Very rare, magnificent officer’s pallash.
