"Pata" (Pichwai) - Rajasthan, 19th c. - Pigments on cotton. The painting contains elements of "Janmashtami", the festival of Krishna's birth and the "Nand Mahotsav" festival on the day after Krishna's birth. On the day of birth, Krishna "Shrinathji" is depicted in saffron robes in a cradle. The newborn is given toys, which are depicted here in large quantities. "Nan Mahotsav" on the following day celebrates the arrival of "Krishna" at the home of Nanda and Yashoda, his foster parents. This day is celebrated with great joy by His adorants, including the display of childhood scenes of Krishna, including stealing butter and curd. - From an important private collection in northern Germany, collected mainly in India from the early 1950s until the 1980s - Minor wearand stained, minor age damages

Pigmente auf Baumwolle. Die Malerei beinhaltet Elemente von "Janmashtami", dem Fest der Geburt Krishna und dem "Nand Mahotsav" Fest am Tag nach der Geburt Krishna. Am Tag der Geburt wird Krishna "Shrinathji" in safrangelbem Gewand in einer Wiege dargestellt. Dem Neugeborenen wird Spielzeug geschenkt, das hier in großen Mengen dargestellt ist. "Nan Mahotsav" am darauf folgenden Tag feiert die Ankunft "Krishna" im Haus von Nanda und Yashoda, seinen Pflegeeltern. Dieser Tag wird mit grosser Freude von Seinen Adoranten gefeiert, u.a. mit zur Schaustellung von Kindheitsszenen von Krishna, darunter das Stehlen von Butter und Quark.
