According to the paper label on the reverse, the painting was acquired by Marie Dorothée Louise de Talleyrand-Périgord (1862 - 1948) at an exhibition in Berlin and kept at Fürstenberg Palace before being brought to Paris after her second marriage.PAUL FRIEDRICH MEYERHEIM - the multitalented artist was active as an animal, portrait and genre painter as well as an illustrator, wood engraver and lithographer. He received his artistic education at the academy in Berlin 1857-60, undertook numerous study trips to Switzerland, Holland, Belgium, Spain and Egypt, and visited Paris several times. His landscape paintings show a clear influence of the Barbizon school. Meyerheim's special talent, however, lay in the depiction of animals. Already in 1883 he was head of the animal painting class at the Berlin academy of arts. Early in 1887 Meyerheim was appointed professor and in 1900 he became a member of the senate of the academy of arts. Provenance: Private collection.

Verso: Etikett mit handgeschriebenem Text auf Französisch. Rahmen. Laut dem Papieretikett auf der Rückseite wurde das Gemälde von Marie Dorothée Louise de Talleyrand-Périgord (1862 - 1948) aus einer Ausstellung in Berlin erworben und im Schloss Fürstenberg aufbewahrt, bevor es nach ihrer zweiten Heirat nach Paris gebracht wurde. Der vielseitige Künstler war sowohl als Tier-, Porträt- und Genremaler als auch als Illustrator, Holzschneider und Lithograf tätig. Er erhielt seine künstlerische Ausbildung 1857-60 an der Akademie in Berlin, unternahm zahlreiche Studienreisen in die Schweiz, nach Holland, Belgien, Spanien und Ägypten und verbrachte mehrere Aufenthalte in Paris. Seine Landschaftsbilder zeigen einen deutlichen Einfluss der Schule von Barbizon. Meyerheims besonderes Talent lag jedoch in der Darstellung von Tieren. Bereits 1883 leitete er die Tiermalklasse an der Berliner Kunstakademie. Anfang 1887 wurde Meyerheim zum Professor ernannt und 1900 Mitglied des Senats der Akademie der Künste. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
