First edition of Floyer’s first publication, a work on the medical properties of plants, minerals, and animal products, William Constable’s copy. The various specimens are classified according to their taste and smell, with recipes for their preparation and notes on the diseases for which they may be prescribed. The author, John Floyer, was a Lichfield physician noted for his treatise on the importance of accurate pulse measurements and for his most famous patient, Dr Samuel Johnson. Floyer also "produced some of the first reports made in English concerning Chinese pulse lore and acupuncture, news of which had recently been conveyed to the west by Jesuit missionaries" (ODNB). Two volumes, octavo (199 x 114mm). Errata and ad leaf bound in the middle of the "To the Reader" address in vol. 1. General title in vol. 1 and part titles in each volume (a few leaves with margins dustsoiled, a few water stains). Contemporary English speckled calf, paneled in blind, edges speckled red, morocco title labels on each spine, some gatherings at end of vol. 2 partially unopened. Provenance: William Constable, 1721-1791, Fellow of the Royal Society and Society of Antiquaries (engraved bookplate) – Hugh Selbourne, 1906-1973, Manchester physician and book collector (small stamp on verso of title).

Auctions are performed by auction houses and each of the auction houses describes their terms of auction. You can see the texts in the section "Auction information".
The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
