Study copy of the first and only rare edition of this geographical text by Francesco Piacenza which, probably inspired by the Venetian conquests in Greece in the late 1600s. Included is a detailed and systematic description of the Aegean Islands, Crete and Cyprus, together with brief descriptions of the Peloponnese and central Greece.

8vo (210 x 165mm). Engraved half-title, title, portrait of Francis II, 2 (of 4) maps, one of which folded, Aegean sea and island of Rhodes, 55 full-page maps (of 59), woodcut initials and head-and-tail pieces (lacking two maps and leaves K1, Q7, T7, V1, some occasional worming and some staining). Contemporary vellum with manuscript title on spine (some staining, partially detached, cover chipped). Provenance: Giustiniano Lazzaretti?
