Pierre Antoine Patel war der Sohn des aus der Picardie stammenden Künstlers Pierre Patel (1695-1676). Möglicherweise erfuhr er seine Ausbildung im Atelier des Vaters. 1677 erwirbt er den Titel des maître peintre, 1680 trägt er den Titel des maître peintre et peintre ordinaire du Roy. Wie sein Vater spezialisiert sich Patel auf Landschaftsdarstellungen mit griechisch-römischen Ruinen. Seine früheren Arbeiten zeichnen sich durch ein kühle Farbpalette und deutlich akzentuierte Lichtkontraste aus. Ab Mitte der 70er Jahre beginnt der Künstler, sich vom Vorbild des Vaters zu lösen.
Das vorliegende Gemälde entstand zwei Jahre bevor Patel mit den Darstellungen der 12 Monate (1699) seinen unbestrittenen künstlerischen Höhepunkt erreichen sollte. In seiner Malerei greift er nun die klassizistischen Kompositionen Claude Lorrains auf, nordischer Einfluss zeigt sich in den pittoresken Elementen der Figurenstaffage sowie in der Darstellung der Architekturelemente. Das Licht wird ausgesprochen feinsinnig behandelt, Hell- und Dunkelkontraste werden raffiniert und akzentuiert eingesetzt.

After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
