Magnifique exemplaire de l'édition originale en maroquin rouge de l'époque. Tout comme les Antichita Romane, Della Magnificenza ed Architettura de’Romani, au-delà de la prouesse de gravure et d’imprimerie, est un travail à visées intellectuelles et même polémiques, compte tenu du contexte dans lequel il paraît.
La prise de position de Piranèse est ici plus directe que dans l’ouvrage précédent : l’enjeu est de réaffirmer le génie technique de l’antiquité romaine face à nombre d’historiens et d’intellectuels qui voient l’art grec comme bien supérieur.
C’est aussi une réponse, voire une riposte directe au livre de Le Roy, Les Ruines des plus beaux monuments de la Grève, paru en 1758. Affirmant sans ambages la supériorité des Romains, Piranèse justifie en particulier sa position en faisant des Romains les héritiers des Étrusques, un peuple qu’il décrit comme plus ancien que les Grecs, mais surtout plus doué.
Le recueil est dédié au pape Clément XIII, dont le patronage permit à Piranèse de publier ses grands recueils au début de la décennie 1760. Les largesses du souverain pontife contribuèrent grandement à ce que Piranèse puisse produire des volumes si richement illustrés, en particulier de grandes planches dépliantes, particulièrement coûteuses.

Reliure de l'époque : maroquin rouge de l’époque, triple filet doré en encadrement, dos à nefs et caissons ornés, gardes de papier marbré, tranches dorées (quelques frottements et restaurations aux coins, quelques accrocs au plat inférieur).

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
