Prussia: Iron Cross, 1813, 1st class of Adolf Wilhelm Leopold Ludwig von Rosenberg-Gruszczynski. Blackened iron core, broken three times, the frame open on the back, assembled in several parts, the frame halves are soldered on the sides, the back with soldered fastening eyelets, one is missing. In addition the former frame with attached dedication sign "EK I from 1813 awarded to Adolph von Rosenberg-Gruszczynski Kgl. Preuss. Captain in Inf. Rgt. Nr.1" as well as a handwritten note. HP1 4.04.03, HS 1288, OEK21 1898, 40 x 40 mm, 12.6 g. Adolf von Rosenberg-Gruszczynski was born on September 12, 1779 as the son of the Polish major general and landowner Franz Heinrich in Littchen. In 1793 he joined the infantry regiment "von Langen" as a private corporal and fought as a prime lieutenant in the 3rd West Prussian Reserve Battalion in the defense of Danzig during the Fourth Coalition War. As commander of the Jäger Detachement of the 1st East Prussian Infantry Regiment, he was involved in the battles near Dannigkow and Merseburg during the Wars of Liberation and was wounded in both and decorated with the Iron Cross 2nd class. In December 1813 he was appointed captain and company commander. Further fights and skirmishes at Löwenberg, Goldberg, Hochkirch, at the crossing at Wartenburg as well as the battles in France at Saint-Dizier, La Chausse, Chateau-Thierry and Mery as well as the battles at the Katzbach as well as at Laon followed. He was awarded the Iron Cross 1st Class for Paris, along with the Russian Order of Anne 2nd Class. As major general he was put up for disposal in 1840 and died on April 19, 1844 in Danzig.
