1.) Eisernes Kreuz, 1870, 2. Klasse, mit Eichenbruch 25, 2.) Offiziers-Dienstauszeichnung, für 25 Jahre, 3.) Kriegsdenkmünze 1870/71, in Bronze, mit den Gefechtsspangen METZ, LE MANS, ORLÉANS und BEAUNE LA ROLANDE, 4.) China-Denkmünze, in Stahl, 5.) Zentenarmedaille (1897), 6.) Hessen: Allgemeines Ehrenzeichen, Ernst Ludwig, für Tapferkeit, rote Rückseitenabdeckung.

General der Infanterie von Strantz trat 1870 als Fähnrich ins Grenadier-Regiment 8 ein und hielt diverse Stellungen während seiner Karriere, unter anderem Kommandeur des 2. Garde-Regiments zu Fuß bzw. der 2. Garde-Infanterie-Brigade und ab 1906 Kommandeur der 25. Division bzw. ab 1911 Kommandierender General des V. Armee-Korps. Als Oberbefehlshaber der Armee-Abteilung Strantz verlieh Kaiser Wilhelm am 22. August 1915, anläßlich des Jahrestages der Erfolge der ersten Kriegsoffensive den Orden Pour le Mérite mit den folgenden Worten: "Unerschütterlich steht seit fast einem Jahre die Euer Exzellenz unterstellte Armee-Abteilung auf der Wacht zwischen Maas und Mosel. Wie oft auch der Feind an ihr zu rütteln versuchte, er hat sie nicht zum Wanken gebracht. Wo aber die Armee-Abteilung zum Schlag ausholte, da pflückte sie reiche Lorbeeren. Die Geschichte der Kämpfe zwischen Maas und Mosel wird für immer ein leuchtendes Ruhmesblatt dieses Krieges bilden...". Lebenslauf anbei.
