Bronze, dunkelbraun patiniert, auf der Plinthe die Künstlersignatur "Walther Schmarje 1913". Entschlossen vorwärts schreitender Trommler im Uniformrock mit hohem Stehkragen, Schwalbennestern, Marschtrommel, Infanteriesäbel am Bandelier und Gamaschen. Sockel aus hohl gegossener Bronze. Gebrauchs- und Altersspuren. Gesamthöhe 56,5 cm. Schön erhaltene, schwere Figur.
Die Bronzefigur entspricht den großen Formen der Denkmäler in Berlin Zehlendorf und Zeitz, die anlässlich der 100-Jahr-Feier der Leipziger Völkerschlacht entstanden.
Walther Schmarje war Meisterschüler von Reinhold Begas an der Kunstakademie Berlin, erhielt 1901 den Rompreis und lehrte ab 1908 als Professor an der Unterrichtsanstalt des Kunstgewerbemuseums Berlin.
