PULCI Luigi (1432-1484) - Morgante maggiore quale tratta della morte del conte Orlando e de tutti li Paladini. Venice: Domenego Zio e Fratelli Veneti, 1539. A 16th-century edition of this poem by Luigi Pulci written in 1461 for Lucrezia Tornabuoni, mother of Lorenzo il Magnifico. The work earned immediate success and was defined by Croce one of the most ingenious works of Italian literature. 4to (200 x 147mm). Title in red and black with large woodcut vignette depicting Morgante and Margutte, printer's device at end, numerous woodcut illustrations (first gathering lightly short and reinforced at inner margin, first 15 leaves, including title, with stain to bottom margin, some restoration with Japan paper, occasional wormholes, some other small repairs, a few leaves cropped or browned). Modern vellum with manuscript title on spine.
