RABELAIS, François (c. 1483-1553). Œuvres. Édition variorum. Augmentée de pièces inédites, des songes drôlatiques de Pantagruel, ouvrage posthume, avec l'explication en regard des remarques de Le Duchat, de Bernier..., de Voltaire, etc. Paris : Chez Dalibon (de l'imprimerie de Jules Didot l'aîné), 1823-1826.



Exemplaire unique tiré sur grand raisin de Chine fort, comprenant chaque figure en 3 états (eau-forte pure sur Chine, état définitif sur Chine et état définitif sur vélin). De la bibliothèque d'Eugène Paillet.

Importante édition regroupant les notes des plus grands commentateurs de Rabelais, dont Le Duchat et Voltaire. Elle reste inachevée comme le précise Brunet qui indique qu'un dizième volume qui devait contenir, entre autres, la table générale, n'a pas paru. Si nous ne connaissons pas le détail du tirage, on sait qu'il existe des exemplaires sur grand papier vélin, sur Chine (Pixerécourt) et sur Chine fort (avec les originaux de Devéria). 9 vol. grand in-8 (236 x 151 mm). 2 portraits de l'auteur, une planche dépliante avec les facsimilés des écritures de Rabelais, Henri II et Diane de Poitiers, la carte du Chinonois, dépliante, sur Chine, et 10 gravures d'après Devéria - les 2 portraits et les 10 gravures sont ici en TROIS ÉTATS : EAU-FORTE PURE SUR CHINE, DÉFINITIF SUR CHINE et DÉFINITIF SUR VÉLIN ; 120 figures grotesques des Songes drôlatiques, gravées sur bois par Thompson au vol. 9. Reliure signée Koehler : demi-maroquin violet à long grain à coins, dos à nerfs surlignés de filets dorés, encadrements de filets dorés aux caissons, tête dorée (quelques piqûres aux planches tirées sur vélin et aux supports de vélin des planches tirées sur Chine).
