Lot 229 | references to Boswell and Johnson
KEROUAC, Jack (1922-1969). Typed postcard signed (“Jack”) to Ed White, postmarked 12 February 1958, Orlando, Florida.

"Now you have an indication of the state of my mind, which is what a letters sposed to be. Crazy.”

Jack’s absorption with Buddhism inspired White to write him a “magnificent historical survey” of the subject, which in the present postcard he wittily acknowledges and disposes of with a richly imagined Boswell-Johnson scenario. “Now you have an indication of the state of my mind... Crazy.” As the frequency of their correspondence diminished in their later years, postcards and telephone calls sufficed to refresh and continue their undiminished friendship.
