A Tyrolean wheellock rifle covered in bone inlays, circa 1780
The octagonal barrel with seven-groove rifled bore in 14 mm calibre. Dovetailed adjustable sights. The brass-lined mark "S.E. Zurschenthaler B." stamped at the breech. The tang with a small inserted aperture sight. Lavishly engraved wheellock with a hunting scene amidst scrolling bands. Signed "Fr. Weirer in Brau" at the base. Set trigger. The full stock in walnut with a bone nosepiece. Entirely covered in fine inlays of bone and mother-of-pearl featuring animals and grotesque masks amidst decorative tendrils. Minor restorations in places. The butt with patch box. The original ramrod with bone tip and wad hook. Length 122 cm.
