This book contains the report of a trip through Yellowstone country, with his protégé, Philip Sheridan, to map a potential rail route. Howes S-397. Octavo (225 x 143mm). 10 folding maps (a little toning and some light soiling along map creases). Contemporary half morocco (spine a little sunned). Provenance: according to a pencil note, this volume was once part Philip Sheridan's library, purchased en bloc by Lowdermilk (i.e. the early Washington, D.C. booksellers, W.H. Lowdermilk Co.).
