Arctic Bibl. 14489, Sabin 71025. Provenance: John Madden (+ 1902); cf. the gest. EL in the intentions. The physician Sir John Richardson (1787-1865) was in 1807, as surgeon on various ships of the Royal Navy and took part in 1819-22 and 1825-27 on both Franklin expeditions. For the search - in his third Expedition (1847-49) lost - Franklin was sent in 1849 an Expedition under Richardson and John Rae (1813-1893), which, however, was unsuccessful. Richardson took advantage of the trip to the exploration of the Region around the Mackenzie River and Cape Kendall, with his interest besides the geography, the Fauna and Flora (detailed list of the plants in the Appendix) was considered as the Eskimos and the Indians, their language (a comparative table of the dialects in the Appendix) and customs. The Illustrations (Lith.M&N. Hanhart) show mainly the members of the Gwichin (Kutchin) tribe.
