32 pages de format in-8 (225 x 170 mm), à l’encre, quelques-unes au crayon, sur feuillets simples et doubles de papier à ligne



Jacques Rigaut relate son histoire d’amour avec Madame Ducie qu’il nomme souvent dans le récit Madame du C. Le manuscrit présente de nombreuses ratures et corrections avec, comme souvent chez Rigaut, un choix de mots qu’il juxtapose. Ce récit, vraisemblablement autobiographique, est conforme à la figure de séducteur qu’incarne Jacques Rigaut et qui inspirera le personnage central du Feu follet à Drieu la Rochelle. Jacques Rigaut se suicide en 1929 à l’âge de 30 ans.

Le texte du manuscrit a été publié en 1970 dans l’édition des Écrits, parue chez Gallimard.
