Ring: unique goldsmith ring with 2 exceptionally large natural pearls "conch", 8ct!
Approx. Ø16.5mm, ring size 52, approx. 11.8g, 18k gold and platinum, very solid goldsmith's band, eye-catcher are the two exceptionally large conch natural pearls, one in pink, one in cream, both in excellent quality with smooth porcelain-like surface and recognisable flame structure, set in platinum, setting set with fine brilliant-cut diamonds, one emerald each at the transition to the ring band, like new and unworn, both the pearls and the gemstones used are of the highest quality, the stone weights are punched. The large size of the two pearls, together weighing over 8ct, is exceptionally rare and valuable. The beautiful, pastel-coloured conch pearl grows in the queen conch snail (pronounced "conk"), a large, edible sea snail. The most beautiful specimens have a wavy "flame" texture on their surface, a creamy, porcelain-like appearance and a unique shimmer. All conch beads have a unique chatoyance that resembles a flame when magnified, creating a delicate wavy pattern of lighter and darker areas on the surface of the bead. This striking, silk-like effect is caused by the formation of microcrystalline calcite fibres in concentric layers just below the surface of the pearl. In the highest quality shell pearls, this is visible to the naked eye. A combination of size, shape, colour and flame effect determines the value. Excellent pearls today cost between $4,000 and $15,000 per carat, beautiful but not necessarily perfect pearls between $2,000 and $3,000 per carat! (Source: https://www.cortrie.de/go/LJ2).
