A medieval German hand-and-a-half sword, Passau, circa 1450
Narrow thrusting blade of flattened diamond section. The brass-inlaid bishop's staff of the episcopal swordsmith workshop in Passau on one side, above which two St. Andrew's Crosses. On the opposite side, a brass-inlaid serpent (or dragon), above which are two teardrop-shaped ornaments. The square quillons angled slightly toward the blade. Narrow, slightly tapered tang, the double conical, octagonal pommel with four finely chequered segments on the top. Length 119.5 cm.
