Lot 409 | Roberto Voerzio, Barolo Riserva Fossati Case Nere 2006
Estimate value
£ 450 – 600
Roberto Voerzio is one of the brightest stars of Piedmont, famous for his stunning Barolos, which are considered ‘cult’ wines on the international market. Modern wine making techniques have been adopted to the extent that he avoids the traditional tannic style. Voerzio wines show good ripeness and he uses new oak barrels, but the wines are not over-extracted and oaky.
The estate, started by Giacomo Voerzio in the 50's, has been run by his son Roberto since the 1980's. The wines are highly concentrated due to the very low yields he enforces in the vineyard. If the vintage is exceptional, yields are little more than 1 bottle per vine.
The successful husband-and-wife team of Roberto and Pinuccia Voerzio produces six wines from six different vineyards surrounding the Piedmont hilltop town of La Morra. Each wine displays tremendous character of origin, which is a result of the benefits of old vines, very small yields and careful vinification of perfectly ripe grapes.
Voerzio produce the following Barolos: Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata/Torriglione, Barolo Brunate, Barolo Cerequio, Barolo La Serra, Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capelot e Brunate, Barolo Sarmassa di Barolo
