Roguish Fool
Bronze, Cold patination in Red or brown; ivory carved, grey marble base. signed; On a round, stepped pedestal of the fool in late medieval standing in costume, with behind his back, his arms folded, mischievously looking to the side. Of the Weimar art school and trained as a sculptor, painter and graphic artist, became after the First world war to become one of the most important artists of the Art Deco. In his in porcelain, and art in Bronze and ivory, the running figures, he often represented motifs from the Commedia dell'arte, Pierrots, harlequins, fools, the devil, and Mephisto. Hereby he threw at the same time, subtly a critical eye on the society of his time of the Weimar Republic and of national socialism. Ges.-H. 36 cm.
