Zwei in der Mitte kreuzweise verbundene, 1 cm dicke Eisenrahmen. Die äußeren Drittel der Seiten ca. 3 cm breit, das innere Drittel ca. 1,5 cm. Auf den Außenseiten Tauschierungen aus Golddraht mit verschiedenen Mustern: Mäander, Wellenranken, gegenständige Dreiecke mit Schraffur, Fischgrätenmuster. Oben modern eine Sitzfläche aus gekreutzen, mit Nieten verbundenen Lederstreifen montiert, die den Faltstuhl ungleich eindrucksvoller zur Wirkung bringen. Im zusammengeklappten Zustand 66 cm hoch, im ausgeklappten Zustand 54 cm. Maße der Sitzfläche 43 x 44 cm. Gut erhaltene, fachmännisch restaurierte Eisensubstanz.
Provenienz: Spanische Privatsammlung, erworben 2021 im englischen Kunsthandel. Dort zuvor von einem renommierten Antikensammler erworben, der das Stück in den 90er Jahren in England erwarb.
A Roman folding chair, iron with inlays, 4th century A.D.
Two iron frames joined crosswise in the middle, 1 cm thick. The outer thirds of the sides approx. 3 cm wide, the inner third approx. 1.5 cm. On the outer sides inlaid gold wire with various patterns: meander, wave tendrils, opposite triangles with hatching, herringbone pattern. On the top, a modern seat made of crossed leather strips connected with rivets, which make the folding chair look much more impressive. Height 66 cm when folded, 54 cm when unfolded. Dimensions seat 43 x 44 cm. Well preserved, expertly restored iron substance.
Provenance: Spanish private collection, acquired in 2021 in the English art trade. Acquired there from a renowned antique collector who purchased the piece in England in the 1990s.
