"Wallpaper with Blue Floor Interior" ist die größte grafische Arbeit im Oeuvre des Künstlers und Teil einer Werkreihe, in der Lichtenstein das Thema des häuslichen Interieurs aufgriff - gemäß dem Pop Art-Motto, dass als Kunst -Motiv alles sein kann, was uns täglich umgibt. Seine Anfang der 1990er Jahre entstandene, teilweise monumentale "Interiors"-Serie von Gemälden und Grafiken basiert auf winzigen en von Innenräumen (unter anderem Küchen, Schlaf- und Wohnzimmer) in Anzeigen, die der Künstler aus den Branchentelefonbüchern von Rom schnitt. Anregung war eine Möbelwerbung, die er 1989 auf einer Reklametafel außerhalb Roms gesehen hatte. Zurück in New York begann Lichtenstein mit seiner "Interiors"-Serie, wobei er sich nachschöpfend an den Werbeanzeigen orientierte und absurd künstlich inszenierte Wohnwelten schilderte. Seine "Interiors" spiegeln neben der Realität auch die Phantasie reichen materiellen Besitzes wider. Auch diese Komposition in "Wallpaper with Blue Floor Interior" zeigt einen modernen Raum als fiktive "Bildtapete" mit unterschiedlichsten Mustern und Spiegelreflexen, in dem sich Luxus und Komfort verbinden.
