Lot 86 | Ruscha, Ed | Some Los Angeles Apartments, inscribed to Joe Goode
Estimate value
$ 7 000 – 10 000
Some Los Angeles Apartments. Los Angeles: Anderson, Ritchie and Simon, 1965
8vo. 34 black and white photographic illustrations. Original white card wrappers printed in lime green, original glassine dust-jacket; light soiling to wrappers, glassine slightly short (possibly as issued), lightly yellowed, worn and chipped.
First edition, presentation copy, inscribed to Joe Goode on the front free endpaper: "To José / Buenó / Ed Ruscha", one of 700 copies.
"Ed Ruscha's works still retain their capacity to surprise, delight, and puzzle in equal measure ... At the time of their publication they largely overlooked by much of the photography world. The apparent anti-formalism and indifferent technique of Ruscha's pictures was derided; the perfect formalism of each book as an art object was not appreciated" (The Photobook).
Another nice association copy between Ruscha and Goode — two quintessentially west coast artists
