Rare 19th-century Johnsoniana. The first installment in Carlyle's Biographical Essays series for Chapman and Hall's railway literature collection, "Reading for Travellers." It was first published in Fraser's Magazine in May 1932 as a review of a new edition of Boswell's Life of Johnson. The most recent copy recorded in RBH was in 1950.
