Dated August 31, 1922, original 3 ½" x 5 ¾" candid image picturing Mathewson throwing out a ceremonial first pitch at Saranac Lake in New York. Signed in black fountain pen, "Best Regards to Michael Astrub from Christy Mathewson". Salutation ranges from 6 to 7 with signature remaining very fine grading 7 to 7/8 out of 10. Titling and photographer are within the image at bottom with handwritten date of "August 31, 1922 Saranac Lake" written at bottom margin. Back of the photo has some handwritten last names which may be related to the team that played. Photo itself has some perimeter creasing and tiny chip to lower right corner.

Mathewson resided at Saranac Lake until his tragic passing in 1925 at the young age of 45 from tuberculosis, contracted from chemical weapons exposure during training for World War I.
