Lot 5293 | Schellenbaum- und Fanfarentuch des DAF-Musikzuges "Betriebszelle der Gothaer Waggonfabrik A.G. Gotha"
Estimate value
€ 6 000
A Jingling Johnny and a clarion banner of the DAF marching band "Betriebszelle der Gothaer Waggonfabrik A.G. Gotha"
Both in the same design, made of red banner cloth with a silver fringe on three edges. Appliquéd/embroidered DAF emblem and inscription around the edge on the front and "Die Gothas" on the back. The Jingling Johnny cloth looped on a nickel-plated crossbar with an additional silver and black fringe. Dimensions approx. 30 x 30 and 48 x 48 cm. The colours still vibrant, signs of handling and age, minor moth damage. Extremely rare banner set.
The Gothaer factory produced fighter aircraft during World War I, including the heavy bomber Gotha G IV. These planes became known as "the Gothas". Due to the Treaty of Versailles, aircraft could only be built again after 1933 for the Luftwaffe, which was being established, such as the transport gliders Gotha Go 242 and Go 244, and, at the end of the war, the pre-series production of the revolutionary flying wing jet fighter Ho 229 (Ho IX) by the Horten brothers.
