Lot 262Schendel, Petrus van, attributed to. The poultry seller ("Le Marchand de for game and wildlife preservation")
The poultry seller ("Le Marchand de for game and wildlife preservation"). On reverse old adhesive label titled and attribution to Petrus van Schendel. Oil on wood. 38.2 x 30.8 cm. Plate min. arched. Restoration. Frame. Reduced copy after Gabriel Metsus (In 1629, Leiden - 1667 Amsterdam) 1662 created paintings (Old masters picture gallery, Dresden). The meticulously executed paintings are a time of its construction most popular work Metsus again. While it is ostensibly a purely genre-like representation of a market scene, there is a further layer of Meaning: The old man seeks young woman that is offered to the rooster as a Symbol of male potency. The dead tree is a delicate vine along the ranks, exhorted, in turn, to the old-age and death.
