A heavy percussion target rifle by Kreisser and Weigandt, Leipzig, circa 1830
Heavy octagonal barrel slightly indented in the middle, of burnished, wrapped Damascus steel. Eight-groove rifled bore in 15.5 mm calibre, engraved muzzle. Dovetailed iron sights, signature inlaid in gold at the breech. Finely engraved snail and tang. Lock with finely engraved hunting scene, set trigger. Beautifully carved full stock of grained walnut wood, the cheek rest with three-dimensional depiction of stags. The finely chequered grip and patch-box lid studded with decorative silver nails. Smooth bone nose. Engraved furniture of nickel silver, trigger guard of dark horn with carved flower ornaments. Silver thumb plate with monogram. Original ramrod with bone tip and threaded sleeve with wad hook. Length 139.5 cm.
