Die Tafel zeigt in kompositionell reduzierter, komprimierter Form die Jungfrau Maria, wie sie mit bedecktem Kopf seitlich nach unten schauend den imaginären kleinen Körper des kleinen Jesus betrachtet, der auf ihren Knien oder in der traditionellen Wiege liegt, ganz in der jahrhundertealten Tradition der Darstellung. Es geht auf ein Madonnenbildnis Scipiones zurück, dem bereits zu seinen Lebzeiten ein immenser Erfolg beschieden war und zu zahlreichen abgewandelten Versionen und Kopien zur privaten Andacht führte. Hierzu zählt auch ein um 1575-1578 geschaffenes, bekanntes Gemälde von Marcello Venusti (um 1512 - 1579) in der Galleria Borghese in Rom (Inv.-Nr. 178). Öl/Holztafel. Provenienz: aus der Sammlung von Maria Antonia Pessina de Branconi (1746 - 1793), der Mätresse des Herzogs Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand von Braunschweig (1735 - 1806), seit 1781 im Schloss Langenstein bei Halberstadt; danach in der Sammlung von August Wilhelm Rimpau (1814 - 1892), Schloss Langenstein bei Halberstadt, 1893 inventarisiert durch den mit ihm verwandten Kunsthistoriker Wilhelm von Bode (1845 - 1929); bis 1945 in Besitz der Familie auf Schloss Langenstein; später in diversen Museumssammlungen der ehemaligen DDR, u. a. in Berlin, Dessau, Halberstadt, Halle, Mosigkau, Wernigerode und Zeitz; nach 1990 restituiert.

The results of the auction are published within a few days after the end of the auction. In the top menu of the site, find the tab "Auctions". Click on it and you will be on the auction catalog page, where you can easily find the category "Results". After opening it, select the desired auction from the list, enter and view the current status of the interested lot.
The information about the auction winners is confidential. The auction winner will receive a direct notification from the auction house responsible with instructions for further action: an invoice for payment and the manner in which the goods will be received.
Each of the auction houses has its own payment policy for the won lots. All auction houses accept bank transfers, most of them accept credit card payments. In the near future you will find detailed information for each case in the section "Auction information" on the page of the auction catalog and the lot.
Shipment of the won lot depends on its size. Small items can be delivered by post. Larger lots are sent by courier. Employees of the auction houses will offer you a wide range to choose from.
