Russia, 1916 (Icon), Moscow, Russia, 1908-1917 (Oklad)
Oil painting on gesso on wood, verso velvet cover. 6.7 x 5.7 cm. Hallmarked with the mark of district inspection administration, with the fineness '84' and most of the characters. The rear Cyrillic dedication inscription '25. August 1916 A. A. Wirubowoj'. Anna Alexandrovna Vyrubova (geb. 16. July, 1884, stamped 20 July 1964) was one of the Familiar and
a close friend and lady-in-waiting of Alexandra Feodorovna and one of the most loyal admirer of Rasputin. 11. August, 1916, listed on the tsarina in her diary: 'they [Vyrubova] leaving on Monday with our friend [Rasputin] and the love Lili to Tobolsk, to pray before the relics of the new saints [John of Tobolsk]'. From this context, one can suggest that this icon could have been a gift by Rasputin to Anna Alexandrovna Vyrubova. Min. restored
